Internship Policy

An internship is a supervised work-related experience, volunteer or compensated, which is related to an academic discipline and is sponsored, evaluated, and graded by a University faculty member. The internship is a new experience and does not represent credit for past work or continuation of the current work situation.

  1. In order to be eligible to enroll in an internship, students must a) be in good academic standing (the overall GPA must be at least 2.0) and b) have completed a minimum of six credits in the major and 55 credits for the degree. Completion of 12 credits in the major will be sufficient to waive the degree credit requirement.
  2. A maximum of six internship credits can be used in the major. An additional three internship credits can be used towards graduation. No more than a total of nine credits of internship can be counted toward graduation.
  3. A faculty member must sponsor the internship. Exceptions can be approved only by the Dean. An individual at the internship location must agree to supervise the experience. For students enrolled in CGS 1900, the sponsoring faculty member is the internship course instructor.
